Born to teenage parents in the early nineties, fastened into the car seat while Hip Hop music boomed & rattled the trunk, her earliest memories are of those with music. Watching music videos & listening to in-the-moment prime time radio, music & the arts were very much apart her upbringing.
Being from a bi-racial background & growing up on both the west & east coast, she developed a diverse intrigue to music ranging from hip hop, pop, oldies, funk, soul, electronic dance, RnB to even classic county.
Theatre was a natural passion & life calling. Once college came around, Carmen decided to peruse a degree in English & Communications at The Florida State University. There, an open casting call for a hip-hop radio slot presented itself, & after seeing 100 people, Carmen was introduced to a new chapter in her life. Bridging her love for performance arts & music, her radio show Back 2 the Future with Carmen Dee took off & a DJ was born.
After graduating & relocating to Los Angeles, she interned with Power 106 and brought Back 2 the Future to theMixshow.com, a podcast studio located in Burbank. From there, she began to turn her hobby of DJing into career, as party promoters saw her unique & refreshing perspective on music & vibe curation. Rocking crowds from DTLA at The Lash to Sofitel & Soho House in West Hollywood to the feel good crowd of 13 Arts Fest, a party with Carmen Dee is unforgettable.
